Chronic:
At your consultation we will discuss the origin of your pain. Depending on the types of headaches you are getting and where the pain originates, we can develop a treatment plan involving botulinum toxin or PRF that will help reduce or eliminate the number and severity of headaches you are experiencing. Please note that these treatments are unlikely to eliminate hormonal migraines.

Acute:
There are many causes of headaches. At your consultation we will discuss specifics about your headache that can guide treatment based on its suspected cause. We can offer many services including administration of IV NSAID (ketorolac), caffeine, IV hydration, sphenopalatine ganglion block.

About the procedure:
Depending on your treatment plan, your procedure might involve a series of small injections, only one intramuscular injection, IV hydration/infusion therapy, or a combination of all of these methods. Generally all of these treatment modalities are considered much less painful than the migraine itself.

How long does it take to work?
The majority of people will see at least some, if not full recovery from an acute migraine as soon as the treatment is complete. For treatment of chronic migraines, expectations will be discussed at your consultation and are very dependent on the causes of your headaches and the treatment plan you choose.

Trigger Point Injections

Botulinum Toxins

$100+

PRP/PRF

$75+

Uses:
Treatment of myofascial pain (usually a knot in the muscle), usually in the shoulders/neck, back, arms, and legs. Some trigger points can lead to other problems such as sciatic pain or tension headaches. Treatment of these trigger points can often reduce or eliminate the pain.

How does it work?
Muscular pain can originate from overuse, sleeping in a bad position, tension/stress, minor injury, or there may not be a known cause. The muscle is stuck in a contracted state, leading to a build up of painful lactic acid and reducing the blood flow and oxygen delivered to the area. Depending on your specific situation, severity, and underlying cause of the pain, we will select a medication that helps reduce the pain, increase blood flow, speed up healing, and/or relax the muscle. We can offer treatments with local anesthetics, botulinum toxin, PRF (platelet rich fibrin), or even a corticosteroid.

About the Procedure: A very thin needle will be injected into the muscle to administer a medication. Most trigger points are very sensitive, so there might be pain on assessment, or with injection (even though the needle is very thin).

How long does it take to work? Depending on the treatment of choice, relief can be immediate. Some treatments (like botulinum toxin) can take up to two weeks to work, and may require several treatments. Fortunately, we can usually combine treatments to give both immediate and long-lasting relief.
